Grigory Nikolayevich BOSENKO was born in 1947 in the town of Kiliya, Odesa Region.

In 1972 he graduated from the architectural department of the S. Lazo Chisinau Polytechnic Institute. G. Bosenko is a member of the USSR Union of Artists and the USSR Union of Architects, and chairman of the bookplate section of the republican board of the Voluntary Society of Book Lovers of the Moldavian SSR. For a number of years he has actively promoted the art of the Moldavian bookplate. The bookplate has long been an object of the artist’s interest. His first one was executed in 1971.

Since then, more than 70 bookplates have been created. In his work, G. Bosenko goes beyond the limits of the traditional bookplate, intended to reflect the nature of the library owner’s book collection and his interests. He strives to make the bookplate a self-sufficient work of graphic art. The bookplates created by the artist are constructed on an associative-psychological principle and are distinguished by their penetration into the inner world of their owners. G. Bosenko’s bookplates may be divided into narrative-thematic and typographic ones. In some, the narrative solution is successfully combined with a typographic one, generally an intricate interlacing of their owners’ initials. The children’s bookplate occupies a special place in the artist’s work. In working on a bookplate, G. Bosenko is drawn to the technique of engraving on linoleum, plastic, and organic glass. Recently, he has increasingly turned to the technique of etching and successfully employs the textural and relief qualities of paper. Each new work by the young artist is evidence of new compositional solutions and a more specific definition of content. The texture of strokes becomes more varied; the stroke becomes livelier and more refined.
